How long have you been in this area? I have been in the area about 20 years this time. My husband, Bill, is a retired Marine. This has been our third time stationed here. * Tell us a little bit about yourself and about what you create. I taught myself to crochet and knit when my 4 girls were little. I made and sold things to make extra money. I also made gifts for Christmas, birthdays, etc. I knit, crochet, beading, scrap book, basically, whatever gets my attention. I won 10 ribbons in October 2008 at the Onslow County Fair for my entrys. I make hand crocheted necklaces, military bears, baby items, jewelry, and house accessories. *What motivated you to start your own business? I met a little lady in a cross stitch store that impressed me alot. I thought I wanted to do that - have my own shop (with rocking chairs), teach people, and make my own things. *How did you get started? I worked at McDonald's for 20 years and decided I no longer "had ketchup running thru my veins" and gave notice. Not knowing what I was going to do, my husband asked why didn't I go ahead and open my own shop and fulfill my dream. *What is some advice you could share with someone thinking about starting a business or preparing to start their own business? One should ALWAYS have a dream. Dreams can give you something to look forward to. Right now I am living MY DREAM! Believe in yourself and what you do.

Coming in February - Shop Hop!!!
Coastal Carolina Artists & Crafters Guild have discovered a way to lend a hand to local shops that support the area’s creative talent.
There are a number of small, privately owned businesses within driving distance from downtown Jacksonville that carry unique and handcrafted items. To tantalize customers to discover each of these shops the CCAC Guild has created a “Shop Hop” scavenger hunt kit.
During the month of February, “Shop Hoppers” will enjoy competing for prizes as they have their scavenger hunt map marked each time they visit a new shop. Those contestants whose maps are marked by every shop will be eligible to win a $300 cash grand prize. Witty contestants who collect all pieces of the puzzle and identify each puzzle item will be eligible to win one of five $10 gift certificates redeemable at any booth at the Spring Craft Fair next May. Cost of a Shop Hop package is $5. “Shop Hop” kits afford the community the opportunity to visit local shops supporting the area’s creative talent.
The SHOP HOP kits are available at some shops located in downtown Swansboro and at A Crafters Dream in Jacksonville.
Vickie's shop, A Crafters Dream, is open until 6pm Monday thru Saturday, located at 233J Western Blvd between the Pet Supply/ Veterinarian Hospital and Onslow Audio. Vickie's phone is 910-353-2714.
Stop by and pick up a SHOP HOP kit for yourself and one for that person that likes to discover shops off the beaten path.
For information about the “Shop Hop” kits, contact Coastal Carolina Artists & Crafters Guild email: CCACGuild@yahoo.com or call 910-938-7077. Visit our blog: www.CCACGuild.blogspot.com
